to + black to - Should read greater than 5 Meg ohms. Reverse polarity should be close to infinity. |

Ohm meter,
Ether polarity should read around 125 ohms. |
| EL SHEET | ||
| The Backlight
is an EL sheet. The EL sheet is basically a large thin capacitor and is tested like one. With a meter capable of measuring capacitance you should read .060 microfarades |
If
you use a regular digital or analog meter set to read
resistance (ohms) @ 1K or so, testing should cause the needle or indication to rise quickly and then fall off. reversing polarity should do the same. If you get a constant ohm reading less than 100K then the sheet is going bad or is bad. |
|
| Other things to check. by symptom | ||
| No Backlight | Check that 12volt supply is reaching inverters input. |
| Check that proper AC
voltage is being sent to the EL Sheet from the inverter. Should be around 80 Volts or more. If less than specified voltage, try disconnecting inverter leads and retesting. If voltage is present and greater than 70Volts then there is probably a short in the wires going to the sheet from the connector. Check wiring continuity and El sheet capacitance. If voltage is to low or not present the Inverter may be bad. |
|
| Also try wiggling the connector. |
| Information about problems with the LCD itself can be found here. | |
