I'm rebuilding a
low mileage 95 model engine to replace my worn out one. I'll rebuild it later for a spare...Maybe!
This engine only had 47K on it when I
got it. I could have easily dropped it into my car. But
it is an original 95 so I would sooner or later have a
head gasket failure. So I opted to be proactive.
I'm replacing all the gaskets and seals.
I'm using a Topline
(MLS) Metal Layered Sandwich style Head Gasket.
I opted for Chrysler Industrial Red Engine paint in place
of the original black.
I Plasti-gauged all the rod and main bearings and
every thing was in great shape there so I opted to leave
all that be.
I checked the clearances on the oil pump and again its in
like new shape so again, I'm leaving it alone. I will
replace the oil seal and o-ring.
We removed the top ridge and pulled the pistons. I will
be re-ringing the pistons with Sealed Power rings. I have
the cylinders honed and ready for the pistons.
I Polished the pistons as well to remove roughness on the
piston skirts.
This is the old engine.
UPDATE:
I Have got the old engine pulled and
started looking at my tranny to check on its condition.
Boy 230K miles has done a number on the clutch, which was
factory.
The motor mounts, 3 out of 4 are bad or badly worn.
The pressure plate is worn down a lot as well.
The Flywheel Is in good condition, No gouging, It has
a bit of a glaze on it, which is to be expected. Having
it surfaced will easily clean it up.
Well this is the engine as of 12/3/05. I
got the new waterpump and timing belt installed.
The camshaft pulley, belt tensioner and idler pulley
mount all look like they're chromed but they're not. Just
some shiny silver paint.
